Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones era nato a Cheltenham (UK) il 28 febbraio 1942 e dimostrò fin da piccolo grandi capacità di apprendimento della musica, tanto da divenire primo clarinettista della sua scuola a 14 anni.
Ben presto imparò a suonare tutti gli strumenti, ma il suo animo ribelle lo portò a varie vicissitudini fin dall’ adolescenza, come quando mise incinta una ragazza a soli 17 anni.
Si trasferì a Londra, entrando nel giro di Alexis Korner, suonando con quei musicisti che in seguito formarono le grande band rock/blues inglesi, come Jack Bruce (Cream), diversificandosi dagli altri chitarristi grazie ad un ottimo uso della chitarra slide.
Voglio ricordare che Brian Jones era capace di suonare qualsiasi strumento, dal corno inglese al sitar, al piano alle percussioni.
Nel 1962 Brian reclutò il cantante Mick Jagger, il pianista Ian Stewart, il chitarrista Keith Richards, il batterista Charlie Watts ed il bassista Bill Wyman, formando con loro i Rolling Stones.
Le sue influenze musicali permisero agli Stones arrangiamenti geniali, capaci di spaziare dal blues al rock alla psichedelia, ma i suoi eccessi lo portarono ben presto ai margini della band.
Nel 1969 Brian Jones fu estromesso dalla band, durante le session di registrazione di “Let It Bleed“.
Il 3 luglio del 1969, Brian fu ritrovato morto affogato nella piscina della sua casa ad Hartfiled, inizialmente fu pensato ad un incidente, ma nel 2000 venne fuori la verità di un omicidio, eseguito dal costruttore dell’abitazione.
Il 5 luglio del 1969, i Rolling Stones tennero un concerto gratuito in Hyde Park in onore di Brian Jones, dove Jagger lesse dei brani dell’ Adonais di P. B. Shelley, liberando migliaia di farfalle bianche e presentando il giovane Mick Taylor alla chitarra.
