Oggi è il compleanno di Charlie Watts, leggendario batterista dei Rolling Stones dal 1963 ad oggi. In suo onore il brano Brown Sugar, con testo e video.
Charles Robert Watts è nato a Londra il 2 giugno 1941.
Fin da giovane si appassionò alla musica jazz, in particolare di artisti come Miles Davis e John Coltrane, tanto che un giorno trasformò un banjo in un tamburo rullante.
Nel 1962 faceva parte della Blues Incorporated di Alexis Korner ed un anno più tardi entrò nei Rolling Stones, diventando l’ uomo perfetto per la band, in quanto il suo stile musicale e di vita, riusciva a fare da collante agli irrequieti Mick Jagger, Keith Richards e Brian Jones,
Charlie Watts quando non è con gli Stones, si diletta a suonare il suo amato Jazz con una propria band, con i quali propone grandi classici del genere.
Io adoro il modo di suonare di Watts, in cui il tocco e la precisione contano più delle grandi tecniche di altri drummer, perchè il segreto della ritmica dei Rolling Stones è proprio il suo stile.
