26 anni fa moriva a Londra, l’ indimenticabile Freddy Mercury, a causa dell’ AIDS.
Freddie Mercury, pseudonimo di Farrokh Bulsara , era nato a Zanzibar il 5 settembre 1946.
Mercury è stato uno straordinario cantautore, musicista e compositore, dotato di carisma e voce straordinari.
Nel 1970 fondò con il chitarrista Brian May e col batterista Roger Taylor, una delle più importanti band del rock, i Queen, che completarono la formazione con il bassista John Deacon un anno più tardi.
Ricordato per il talento vocale e la sua esuberante personalità sul palco, è considerato uno dei più celebri e influenti artisti nella storia del rock: universalmente riconosciuto come il più grande frontman della storia della musica, nel 2008 la rivista statunitense Rolling Stone lo classificò 18º nella classifica dei migliori cento cantanti di tutti i tempi, mentre l’anno successivo Classic Rock lo classificò al primo posto tra le voci rock.
