Jerry Garcia è stato un chitarrista, cantante e compositore, frontman dei Greateful Dead, uno dei maggiori gruppi musicali di rock psichedelico statunitense.
Jerome John Garcia, alias Jerry Garcia, (Oakland, 1º agosto 1942 – Lagunitas-Forest Knolls, 9 agosto 1995), miscelava nel suo stile il folk, il country, il blues ed il bluegrass.
Attorno ai Grateful Dead nacque una sorta di culto; alcuni loro fan, chiamati Deadhead, seguirono il gruppo in concerto per anni, vivendo di fatto come nomadi in onore della loro devozione verso “the Dead” (Fonte Wikipedia).
Jerry morì per attacco di cuore, mentre si trovava nel centro di riabilitazione dalle droghe Serenity Knolls in California,
La rivista Rolling Stone, ha classificato Garcia al 13° posto, nella lista dei migliori chitarristi di sempre.
Certamente la sua musica non è di facile ascolto, ma è notevole la grande improvvisazione, a cui veniva dato spazio nei concerti.
