Thomas Earl Petty (Gainesville, 20 ottobre 1950 – Malibu, 2 ottobre 2017) è stato un chitarrista, cantante e compositore statunitense.
La sua carriera musicale cominciò intorno al 1969, ma arrivò al successo 7 anni più tardi con la sua band, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
Nel 1987 fondò con George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, i Traveling Wilburys.
Tom Petty si è spento all’età di 67 anni, per arresto cardiaco.
