John Henry Bonham, detto Bonzo, era nato a Redditch (UK) il 31 maggio 1948 ed imparò a suonare da autodidatta, imitando i suoi musicisti preferiti come Buddy Rich e Gene Krupa. Nel 1968 entrò a far parte della band di Robert Plant, chiamata Band Of Joy. In seguito allo scioglimento della band, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones e John Bonzo formarono i Led Zeppelin, una delle più innovative band di Rock Blues, pionieri dell’ Hard Rock, entrando ben presto nella leggenda. Quando Bonzo morì nella villa di Page, soffocato dal proprio vomito, i Led Zeppelin si sciolsero.
John Bonham è considerato il miglior batterista di sempre, grazie alla sua grande inventiva che gli ha consentito di creare dei grooves, che oggi sono alla base della tecnica moderna.
La canzone Black Dog è contenuta nel monumentale album “Led Zeppelin IV” del 1971, autentico capolavoro di Hard Rock Blues, che è stata inserita al n° 294 della classifica delle 500 migliori canzoni di sempre della rivista Rolling Stone.
