Oggi la regina della disco music, Gloria Gaynor, compie 70 anni. Per celebrarla, vi posto il brano “I Will Survive”, con testo e video.

Gloria Fowles, alias Gloria Gaynor, è nata a Newark (USA) il 7 settembre 1949.
In attività dalla metà degli anni ’60, iniziò la sua carriera nel mondo della musica Soul e Jazz.
Nel 1974, grazie alla cover del brano “Never Can Say Goodbye,” raggiunse la Top 10 americana, diventando una delle prime cantanti a lanciare la disco music.
Nel 1978 raggiunse la fama mondiale, grazie alla hit “I Will Survive”, contenuta nell’album “Love Tracks”.
I Will Survive è una canzone di Freddie Perren e Dino Fekaris, interpretata e resa nota da Gloria Gaynor nel 1978.
Il testo della canzone descrive in prima persona l’esperienza del narratore che trova una nuova forza interiore dopo essersi ripreso da una rottura col partner, ora abbandonato. La canzone è stata spesso usata sia come un inno dell’empowerment femminile, sia come inno gay. La Gaynor stessa è diventata una icona gay indiscussa.
I Will Survive diventò presto il più grande successo della Gaynor, ricevendo un enorme airplay nel 1979, tanto che giunse alla vetta della classifica statunitense di Billboard; è un classico della discomusic ancora molto in voga nelle discoteche e nelle radio.
