Billy Corgan, vero nome William Patrick Corgan , è nato a Chicago il 17 marzo 1967.
Cantante, musicista, compositore, Billy Corgan è proprietario delle federazioni di wrestling National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) dal 2017.
La sua attività musicale cominciò nel 1985 con gli Hexen, ma la notorietà arrivò qualche anno più tardi con gli Smashing Pumpkins.
1979 è il secondo singolo dei The Smashing Pumpkins, estratto dal doppio album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness del 1995. La canzone ricevette il premio MTV Video Music Award per il miglior video alternativo.
