Cat Stevens, vero nome Steven Demetre Georgiou, è nato a Londra il 21 luglio 1948, dal 1977 ha cambiato il nome in Yusuf Islam.
Il suo esordio risale al 1965, ma il successo arrivò nei primi anni 70, dopo aver passato un periodo in un sanatorio a causa della tubercolosi.
Dopo aver rischiato l’ annegamento nel 1977, Stevens si convertì all’ Islam prendendo il nome di Yusuf Islam.
Father and Son è una canzone scritta ed interpretata dal cantautore inglese Cat Stevens (ora conosciuto come Yusuf/Cat Stevens) nel suo album del 1970 Tea for the Tillerman. La canzone inquadra uno scambio straziante tra un padre che non capisce il desiderio di un figlio di staccarsi e dare forma a una nuova vita, e il figlio che non può davvero spiegarsi ma sa che è tempo per lui di cercare il proprio destino.
