James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix (Seattle, 27 novembre 1942 – Londra, 18 settembre 1970), è stato il più importante e grande chitarrista di sempre.
Nel corso degli anni, nonostante la sua prematura scomparsa, Jimi ha mantenuto il primato di essere il n° 1 al mondo.
Il blues, il jazz, il rock, nella sua musica, sconfinavano in territori mai esplorati.
La chitarra faceva parte del suo corpo e della sua mente, era capace di tramutare in note tutto ciò che pensava.
In 4 anni stravolse il modo di suonare e concepire la musica come nessuno altro al mondo.
Attribuita inizialmente a Dino Valenti, Hey Joe è un brano blues i cui diritti d’autore furono rivendicati nel 1962 da Billy Roberts. Il rilievo storico del brano è ad ogni modo da attribuirsi alla cover che ne fece Jimi Hendrix nel suo album di esordio Are You Experienced? del 1967, nonché per il primo singolo che lo precedette, pubblicato il 16 dicembre 1966 in Europa.
