Oggi il grande Roger McGuinn compie 77 anni. Per celebrarlo, vi posto il brano dei The Byrds, intitolato “Eight Miles High”, con testo e video.

James Joseph McGuinn III, diventato poi Roger McGuinn, è un cantante e chitarrista, nato a Chicago (USA) il 13 luglio 1942.
Assieme a David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Michael Clarke e Gene Clark, Roger fondò nei primi anni ’60 i The Byrds.
Con i Byrds contribuì a portare il folk rock alla fama mondiale, facendo da apripista alla psichedelia, grazie a brani come Turn! Turn! Turn! e Eight Miles High.
Dopo lo scioglimento dei Byrds, Roger ha alternato successi a lavori non all’altezza del suo nome, certo è che la sua voce e la sua chitarra Rickenbacker, sono stati l’ emblema del sound americano degli anni 60.
Eight Miles High fu composta da Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn e David Crosby. La hit fu pubblicata come singolo nel marzo del 1966, poi inserita nell’album Fifth Dimension , uscito nel luglio del solito anno.
Musicalmente influenzata da Ravi Shankar e John Coltrane, Eight Miles High, insieme alla B-side Why, fu determinante nello sviluppo di stili musicali come il rock psichedelico, il raga rock e lo psychedelic pop. Inoltre, il brano viene spesso citato dai critici come la prima canzone di rock psichedelico in assoluto. (Fonte Wikipedia)
