Sly Stone, vero nome Sylvester Stewart, è nato a Denton (USA) il 15 marzo 1943.
Cantante, musicista, compositore e produttore discografico fu il frontman dei Sly & Family Stone, una delle band che più contribuì allo sviluppo della musica funk, soul e psichedelica.
La rivista Rolling Stone ha inserito gli Sly & The Family Stone al quarantatreesimo posto nella sua lista dei 100 più grandi artisti di sempre.
Purtroppo l’ uso di droghe e le pressioni dall’esterno per hit di successo, portarono Sly ad un declino fisico e musicale.
Dopo l’ arresto per cocaina del 1987, Stone si ritirò dalle scene.
