Il 16 luglio 2012 moriva Jon Lord, straordinario musicista e compositore. In suo ricordo il brano Knocking at Your Back Door dei Deep Purple.
Jonathan Douglas Lord (Leicester, 9 giugno 1941 – Londra, 16 luglio 2012), è stato uno dei più importanti innovatori dell’ Hammond nel rock.
Membro dei Deep Purple e dei Whitesnake, è stato pianista, organista, compositore, imparò a suonare il pianoforte studiando musica classica.
Nel 1959, Jon Lord si trasferì a Londra, dove entrò nella band di Art Wood, fratello maggiore di Ronnie Wood dei Rolling Stones.
Nel 1967 fu chiamato a formare una band, coninvolgendo il chitarrista Ritchie Blackmore. In quel periodo Jon Lord sviluppò un suono dell’ Hammond, collegato ad un amplificatore Marshall, così duro da sembrare quello di una chitarra elettrica.
Nacquero così i Deep Purple, una delle più importanti band della storia del rock.
Nel 1978, uscì dalla band (rientrandovi nel 1984), entrando nei Whitesnake con cui registrò 6 album.
Alla propria carriera solista, dece parte di band come gli Hoochie Coochie Men, collaborando con David Gilmour, Tony Ashton e Ian Pace.
Lord morì a 71 anni, a seguito di un tumore al pancreas.
