La canzone è contenuta nell’album del 1972, intitolato Obscured By Clouds, composto come colonna sonora del film La Vallée, del regista Barbet Schroeder.
Il brano, che fu scritto e cantato da David Gilmour, è un rock psichedelico con una ritmica funky.
Fu l’ ultimo brano scritto nel testo dal chitarrista, che ricominciò nel 1987 con A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, dopo la reunion senza Roger Waters.
Childhood’s End significa Fine dell’Infanzia, in effetti il brano ha come tema principale la fine delle illusioni legate a quel periodo di vita.
Sicuramente non è uno dei brani più celebri, ma a me è sempre piaciuto sia per il timbro vocale, sia per il solo di chitarra, tipicamente blues.
