L’11 settembre 1987, veniva ucciso nella sua casa il grande Peter Tosh, cantautore e musicista, tra i più importanti del Reggae.
Peter Tosh, pseudonimo di Winston Hubert McIntosh (Grange Hill, 19 ottobre 1944 – Kingston, 11 settembre 1987) è stato con Bob Marley, uno dei cantautori più importanti del Reggae.
Nel 1959 si trasferì a Trenchtown, dove prese lezioni di canto dal produttore Joe Higgs. Proprio in quel periodo conobbe Robert Nesta Marley e Neville O’Riley Livingston, alias Bob Marley e Bunny Wailer.
Con loro fondò il gruppo ska Teenagers, che con l’ entrata del cantante Junior Braithwaite e le coriste Beverley Kelso e Cherry Smith divennero prima Wailing Rudeboys, poi in “Wailing Wailers.
Nel 1965 la band pubblicò l’ album The Wailing Wailers.
Durante le registrazioni dell’ album Burnin’ del 1973, Tosh e Livingston lasciarono la band e la band diventò Bob Marley & The Wailers.
Nel 1976 Peter Tosh pubblicò il suo primo album solista Legalize It, su etichetta Capitol Records.
Nel 1978 Mick Jagger andò a vedere un concerto di Tosh, rimanendo affascinato dal potenziale di Tosh, così da metterlo sotto contratto con la Rolling Stones Records con la quale pubblica nel 1978 l’album Bush Doctor. Nell’ album Tosh e Jagger duettarono nella canzone Don’t Look Back.
L’11 settembre 1987 l’artista giamaicano viene assassinato nella sua casa di Kingston: si trovava lì con la moglie Joy e l’amico dj Jeff “Free-I” Dixon, quando un malvivente locale, Dennis “Leppo” Lobban, irrompe con due complici per rapinare tutti i presenti; alla richiesta di denaro Tosh risponde in modo negativo, e i criminali aprono il fuoco uccidendo sia il cantante che l’amico DJ (Fonte Wikipedia).
