Kenny Rogers, vero nome Kenneth Donald Rogers, era nato a Houston (USA) il 21 agosto 1938.
Cantautore, attore e fotografo, entrò nella Country Music Hall of Fame nel 2013.
La sua carriera cominciò negli anni ’50 con il cantante jazz Bobby Doyle , e si unì all’ensemble folk New Christy Minstrels nel 1961, suonando il contrabbasso, il basso e cantando.
Nel 1967, lui ed altri membri dei New Christy Minstrels, fondarono il gruppo The First Edition , con i quali raggiunse il successo, con la canzone rock psichedelia ” Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)”.
La band, dopo aver virato verso la country, si sciolse intorno al 1976 e Kenny Rogers iniziò una lunga e fortunata carriera da solista-
Rogers ebbe diverse collaborazioni di successo, tra cui duetti con le cantanti Dolly Parton e Sheena Easton , e una collaborazione con Lionel Richie .
La sua canzone ” The Gambler ” del 1978 , è stata un successo mondiale, che gli è valse un Grammy Award nel 1980 ed è stato selezionato nel 2018 per la conservazione nel National Recording Registry dalla Biblioteca del Congresso .
Nonostante Kenny abbia avuto molto successo con il country, ha pubblicato più di 120 singoli di successo in vari generi musicali, superando le classifiche degli album pop e country per oltre 200 negli Stati Uniti da solo e ha venduto oltre 100 milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo , diventando uno degli artisti musicali più venduti di tutti i tempi.
Kenny Rogers si è spento il 20 marzo 2020, per cause naturali.
