Tom Petty, vero nome Thomas Earl Petty, era nato a Gainesville (USA) il 20 ottobre 1950-
Chitarrista, cantante e compositore, la sua carriera cominciò nel 1969, ma arrivò al successo 7 anni più tardi con la sua band, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
Nel 1987 fondò con George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, i Traveling Wilburys.
Tom Petty si è spento il 2 ottobre 2017, all’età di 67 anni, per arresto cardiaco.
Mary Jane’s Last Dance è un singolo estratto dall’album Greatest Hits di Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers del 1993.
La clip ufficiale, che vide la partecipazione della grande Kim Basinger, ricevette il premio MTV Video Music Award al miglior video maschile.
